Actions taken throughout “plastic bag free week”
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sunday 06.05.2016A truck full of waste (mainly plastic bags) has been collected on Sunday 06.05.2016 during the cleanup of the path to Pherecydes’ Cave, with the participation of “Hikers Club of Syros” and of the Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Marios Voutsinos! We thank them wholeheartedly for struggling under the hot sun for this action, which we hope will stand as the starting point for many other essential actions. Our reward has been the smell of sage that covered the smell from an inconceivable number of dispersed plastic bags and other lightweight plastic materials which were drifting by the wind and piled this lovely area that has the misfortune to be located near the sanitary landfill.
At the same time, part of LIFE DEBAG and CYCLADES LIFE staff members took part in the beach litter cleanup action in the northern coasts of Syros, organized by the “Inflatable and speed-boats’ club of Syros”.
Finally, on the evening, we have created a story in the enchanting Ano Syros. A sea between two castles, two princesses, a plastic and a woven bag… And a war that has packed the sea with plastic bombs… And finally…peace. We have created a story that moves in the space of the imaginary but reflects the real wishful thinking. Does the bag fly? And where does itgo?[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ initial_loading_animation=”none” grid_id=”vc_gid:1527780423801-adb6a224-f9c4-8″ include=”532,533,534,535,536,537,538,539,540,541,542,543,544″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saturday 06.04.2016
On Saturday 06.04.2016, the LIFE DEBAG Project has participated in the action of cleaning the Gyaros Island coasts, event organized by the parallel Life project called Cyclades LIFE, in which the Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Marios Voutsinos, and bodies such as “Inflatable and speed-boats’ club of Syros”have also participated. Besides cleaning the coasts, a detailed scientific recording of waste has taken place, in order to study the composition and the origin of their sources! Thanks Cyclades LIFE!
On the Saturday evening, in Miaoulis central square of Syros, we have sent a message with the help of music: Leave plastic bags in the past … and not in our seas! Thank you wholeheartedly “Nea Taxi Pragmaton” band for the perfect evening. They have communicated the love for the natural environment and life itself in such a unique way that touched us all![/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ initial_loading_animation=”none” grid_id=”vc_gid:1527780423804-005f3d78-b1e1-0″ include=”529,528,527,526,525,524,523,522,521,520,519,513,514,515,516,517,518,512,511,510,509,507,506,505,504,503,502,501,500,499,498,497″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Friday 06.03.2016

Furthermore, we initiated the research on the waste load on the seafloor and the coastal areas of Lotos, Kini and Hermoupolis, by implementing methods of underwater acoustic and visual scanning (sonar side scanner – underwater sliding camera), as well as aerial remote sensing (drone).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Monday 05.30.2016
