[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Information KioskIn order to effectively inform the residents and tourists of Syros about both the impact of plastic bags in the marine environment and the objectives of the Project, we have operated from Monday, May 21st to Saturday May26 th, at Miaoulis Square in Hermoupolis, (from 10 am to 1 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm), the LIFE DEBAG Information Kiosk. In the context of the “3rd Plastic Bag Free Week”, from Tuesday, May 22 to Saturday, May 26, the “monster” called “Plastic Bag Man”, which ferociously ate plastic bags, walked around the streets of Hermoupolis! On Thursday morning, at the “Ritsos Hall” of the “Hermoupolis Cultural Center Hall”, a presentation of the to date progress of LIFE DEBAG to EASME representative Mrs Diana Oancea, and to Mr Theoharis Tziovaras from the external monitoring team of LIFE Projects, NEEMO, was conducted, followed by a financial audit.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ initial_loading_animation=”none” grid_id=”vc_gid:1532544612410-2b0f0d1b-ce92-7″ include=”1512,1513,1514,1515,1516,1517,1518,1519,1520″][vc_column_text]On Thursday noon, at the City Hall of Hermoupolis, the key stakeholders meeting took place, with the participation of Ms Oancea (EASME), Mr Tziovaras (NEEMO), the Mayor of Syros-Hermoupolis Mr. G. Maragos, the Deputy Mayor for Environmental Affairs Mr. M. Voutsinos , the President of the “Solid Waste Management Association”, Mr. M. Printezis, as well as of representatives from the educational sector and the Chambers of Commerce. All participants stressed the importance of LIFE DEBAG for the local community of Syros. On Saturday noon, at the “Ritsos Hall” of the “Hermoupolis Cultural Center Hall”, we have conducted our Symposium, entitled: “Deplasticizing Greece – Practices for reducing plastic bags in the marine environment”. The Symposium was attended by distinguished scientists both from abroad (Dr. Francois Galgani, Dr. Francoise Claro) and Greece (Dr. Chrisi Karapanayiotis), who presented the enormous environmental problem caused by plastic bags in the marine and coastal environment. In addition, representatives of initiatives from other islands (Skiathos -Active Skiathos Against Plastic bag- and Chios -“MELTEMI”-), as well as professors from the University of the Aegean, presented their work that was inspired by LIFE DEBAG Project.[/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ initial_loading_animation=”none” grid_id=”vc_gid:1532544612415-942f37a9-035e-1″ include=”1546,1547,1541,1542,1543,1545,1544,1540,1549,1548″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
