On Thursday, February 1st 2018, the 5th stakeholders’ Consultation Forum was successfully held.
The forum, which took place in Panteion University, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and the Hellenic Recycling Agency (HRA), was attended by participants of all the stakeholders involved with the subject. Namely: representatives of the Ministry of Environment, of the Hellenic Recycling Agency, of all major supermarket chains, of environmental and consumer organizations, of researchers from various universities and institutes and others.
The 5th forum focused on Voluntary Agreements that can be adopted by retailers, leading to a faster reduction in the consumption of plastic bags, with additional benefits for the environment and society.
Through the presentations and the dialogue that followed, all the subjects’ parameters have been presented and thoroughly analyzed, as well as the included in the Voluntary Agreements proposals – measures for the prevention of the use of plastic bags, as the charge of plastic bags with a levy is undoubtedly an important measure, but it can not in itself change the consumer habits.
Moreover, particular emphasis was given on the first results of LIFE DEBAG actions relating to the reduction of plastic bag consumption in the coastal zone of Syros.
The dialogue was recorded and the minutes of the 5th Forum are available to all interested parties.
